€500,000 investment announced for libraries throughout Northwest

An investment of almost half a million euro has been announced for libraries throughout the Northwest.

The funding will help improve libraries in Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim.

The Department of Rural and Community development announced the measure today, which will allow the services to be modernised.

Libraries in Donegal will receive funding of almost two hundred and thirty thousand euro, while libaries in Leitrim will be granted over one hundred and four thousand euro.

Sligo libraries have been given a grant of just  over one hundred and twenty thousand.

Mayor of Sligo Hubert Keaney is welcoming the announcement and says that it’ll be used to develop the self-service library option in Sligo:

The investment will enable the purchase of self-service technology for the 20 libraries in Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim, books to promote literacy for children, and hot desk facilities for business people and job seekers.”
