Sligo among worst counties for remote working

Sligo has been deemed one of the worst counties in Ireland for remote working, according to a new report.

A recent study by Virgin Media highlighted the disparity in the north west region when it comes to working from home.

Kerry has been chosen as the best county for remote working, with Donegal in 5th place, Leitrim in 8th, while Sligo was deemed only better than Limerick in the rankings.

Several factors were taken into consideration when deciding places, including rent prices, broadband speeds, crime rates, restaurant availability, the number of primary schools, air quality and sunlight hours.

Kerry’s average monthly rent came in at €1,035 per month, which is cheaper than Sligo’s rent of €1,090, while Kerry has 635 restaurants and pubs, in comparison to Sligo’s 144.

According to the Central Statistics Office (CSO), the number of people working from home in Ireland has increased from 19.89 per cent to 36.2 per cent, in the last four years.
