EU conference to hear total road deaths similar to size of Sligo



An EU conference today is to hear that the current levels of road deaths across member states is similar to the population of a town the size of Sligo.

 

Government representatives from the US, Europe and Ireland, transport experts and road crash survivors will attend the EU Road Safety Conference in Dublin’s RDS.

 

The conference is to discuss how progress to halve road deaths across member states by 2030 has stagnated.

 

Figures from the European Commission show that around 20,400 people were killed in road crashes last year, a decrease of just 1% on 2022’s total.
