No HAP properties available to rent in Sligo town or Co. Leitrim last month

There were no HAP properties available to rent in either Sligo town or County Leitrim last month.

The Housing Assistance Payment Scheme is a form of social housing support provided by all local authorities.

Under HAP, local authorities can provide housing assistance to households with a long-term housing need, including many long-term Rent Supplement recipients.
The latest report from the Simon Community shows that the two areas didn’t have any homes to rent through the scheme in any household category.

Sligo was however one of three areas outside the Capital which had properties available within discretionary HAP limits.

But the town had the lowest number, with just two properties available across the three days.

Although the total number of properties available to rent increased since the March Locked Out report, eight of the 16 areas in the study recorded a reduction in the number of properties available to rent.

The report also highlights the need for more progress on the delivery of affordable housing in Ireland.
