New figures show shock decline of Sligo/Leitrim Roads Policing Unit



New figures from road safety group PARC further indicate a major decline in Gardai assigned to road policing units in the North West.

 

The data shows that in the Sligo/Leitrim division, there has been a drop of over 20 personnel since 2009.

 

There were 34 Gardai attached to the Sligo/Leitrim roads policing unit then, now there’s only 13.

 

In Donegal, the number has decreased by 12, going from 34 Gardai in 2009 to 22 currently.

 

Meanwhile, the Taoiseach and senior ministers are due to meet with representatives from the Road Safety Authority today.

 

They’ll be discussing the ongoing spike in road deaths, with this year on course to record the highest number of deaths in 15 years.
