ATU Sligo in emotional tribute to team-mate after Moynihan Cup final win

There were emotional scenes at the MTU Arena in Cork on Saturday following ATU Sligo women’s gaelic footballers 1-10 to 1-8 victory in the final of the Higher Education Moynihan Cup.

The win came just days after ATU Sligo student and member of the football team, Ella O’Neill, was laid to rest in her home county of Waterford after dying suddenly last weekend.

ATU won Saturday’s final against Mary Immaculate College (MIC) Limerick, on a final scoreline of 1-10 to 1-8.

Members of Ella’s family attended the match.

After the final whistle, her brother Darragh and sister Aoife, who wore Ella’s ATU team jersey while watching the game, joined the players for the postmatch team photo.

It promoted this poignant moment, which video journalist Jerome Quinn filmed.
