Abbey VS are All-Ireland colleges champions

Abbey Vocational School, Donegal Town, one a first-ever All-Ireland senior ‘B’ colleges football title on Saturday with an inspired 1-15 to 0-9 win over Ashbourne Community School (Meath) in Clones.

The Ulster Colleges MacLarnon Cup winners raced into an 0-10 to 0-3 interval lead – and while Ashbourne rallied in the second-half, reducing the deficit to four points, AVS Donegal remained calm and a goal from Conor McCahill in the closing moments put the result beyond all doubt.

AVS become just the third Donegal school to lift the Paddy Drummond Cup, following in the footsteps of St Eunan’s College (1979) and De La Salle, Ballyshannon (1980).
