Sligo’s Seamie Keogh joins US soccer club

Sligo’s Seamie Keogh has a new club.

He’s joined Lansdowne Yonkers FC in New York, in a role that will see him play first team football and coaching underage kids at the club.

Lansdowne Yonkers was formed in 1997 for the Irish ex pat community in the Bronx and Yonkers areas of New York.

It’s recognised as one of the leading amateur clubs in American soccer – winning the national amateur championship twice in 2017 and 2021.

Keogh was with Finn Harps last season, and had been training in pre-season at the Showgrounds with Sligo Rovers.

But Rovers opted not to sign him for the 2024 campaign, so Keogh a former Southampton player and Republic of Ireland under 17 international captain is trying his luck in the US now.

He turned 22 years of age at the end of February.

The Lansdowne roster also includes Donegal native and former Finn Harps and Fanad Utd player Paul McVeigh.

Keogh was part of the Lansdowne squad which won their opening game of the new Metropolitan Conference this weekend with a 6-0 victory against Suffolk County FC.
