Leitrim’s late late show keeps them top of Division 4

An penalty in added time from Ryan O’Rourke gave Leitrim a dramatic one-point victory over Wexford in Sunday’s Allianz Football League Division 4 game against Wexford in Carrick-on-Shannon, on a final scoreline of 3-7 to 2-9.

O’Rourke struck his third goal in the dying moments of the game after Glencar/Manor’s Barry McNulty won a penalty for his team in the helter-skelter closing moments of the contest.

O’Rourke, who had already scored two first-half goals, kept his cool to convert the kick and ensure Leitrim maintained their 100 per cent start to Division 4.

He spoke to Ocean FM Sport’s Ray Lannon after the game.

It was cruel luck on Wexford, who had looked the more likely winners for much of the second-half – but Leitrim showed commendable heart to turn the contest around in the closing moments.
