New basketball club for Sligo

A new basketball club is being set up in Sligo.

The Atlantic Eagles are being affiliated with Basketball Ireland and the North West Area Board (NWAB).

It’s understood the club’s founders have been members of the existing EJ Sligo All-Stars Club, who now wish to form a new breakaway club of their own.

The Eagles Social Media posts say they will cater for girls and boys of all ages and abilities, from under-7 up to senior, with the aim of providing more choice and  opportunities for players across the various grades.

The club says it will train and play at various (as yet undefined) venues across the Sligo town area.

Membership info, along with details on player transfer procedures, have already been shared across the Eagles Facebook and Instagram pages.

It’s understood the All-Stars Club has been directed by the National Association of Basketball Clubs inform its membership of the intention by existing members to set up a new club.

Provided they are able to attract sufficient playing numbers, the Atlantic Eagles hope to be formally certified as a basketball club in the coming weeks.
