Local TD urges constituency colleagues to take action against investment funds buying properties in bulk

A Sligo Leitrim TD has urged all his fellow deputies in the North West to support a Sinn Fein motion that will look to increase stamp duty on the bulk purchase of homes by investment funds.

The motion will seek to implement a stamp duty of at least 17% on the purchase of homes by investment funds to stop the practice of bulk buying.

Currently stamp duty is charged at 10% for such sales.

The move comes after investment funds continue to hover up new homes that come on the market in Dublin.

They later offer these properties on the rental market.

Deputy Martin Kenny says many people from counties such as Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal that are working in the capital are being priced out of the property market and are also struggling to afford the rent being charged for these properties.
