Leitrim Councillor says extra supports are needed for communities housing international protection seekers

Questions are being asked in relation to what extra support are being made available by Government Departments to help accommodate those seeking International Protection refuge in the North West.

Cllr Padraig Fallon raised the issue at the January meeting of Leitrim County Council.

The Sinn Fein councillor says there is a greater need for supports to be made available to communities across the country.

He says supports are needed in education, health and travel.

Meanwhile the Dublin Communities Against Racism have condemned what they claim is ‘Government disregard’ for the homeless crisis – following the death of a man who was rough sleeping in Dublin city centre.

The man’s body was discovered on St Andrew’s Street yesterday morning – during a Status Yellow Low Temperature alert.

The group’s also hit out at the ‘crocodile tears’ of the far right – blaming them for encouraging the burning of accommodation centres, and scapegoating immigrants for the failures of Government.
