Local TD warns that proposed new asylum centres will face strong opposition

A Sligo Leitrim TD is warning that the proposed new reception Centres that the government are looking to build to accommodate asylum seekers will face fierce opposition regardless where they decide to locate them.

It’s being proposed that 6 centres will be constructed with each facility being able to house between 500 and 750 asylum seekers.

The buildings will be state owned and state ran and will be situated throughout the country.

With a lengthy construction time expected as well as opposition from various groups, Sinn Fein Deputy Martin Kenny says it vital that other available accommodation is also utilised by the government.

The Leitrim based TD has also express his shock with the events in Dublin over the weekend where a premises, situated in Ringsend that was earmarked as a possible location for housing asylum seekers was burned to the ground.
