Plans to restore historic Killybegs building

A historic building in Killybegs could be set to be redeveloped.

Donegal Live reports that planning permission has been sought for works to the former Killybegs Carpet Factory.

Greenlands Asset Holdings Limited have applied for permission for the development of seven apartments at the building, located at New Row, Killybegs.

Operated by Alexander Morton, the Scottish textile manufacturer, the building provided employment from the late 1800s.

It was sold to Donegal Carpets Limited, in 1954 and before the factory closed in 1987.

While the Killybegs Maritime and Carpet Making Heritage Centre operated there from 2006 to 2021.
