Overcrowding at Letterkenny University Hospital ‘unacceptable’

The situation which led to 57 people waiting for a bed at Letterkenny University Hospital yesterday has been described as ‘unacceptable’ by a local TD.

Sinn Féin Deputy Pearse Doherty was reacting to yesterday’s figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation which resulted in Letterkenny being the second most overcrowded hospital.

The Donegal TD warned that the hospital, patients and staff faced growing pressures as a result of Government underfunding of the health service.

The Sinn Féin Deputy went on to add that in the first 10 months of this year, over 4,600 patients were admitted to the facility without access to a bed – that is a 400 percent increase compared to 2013.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Deputy Doherty says the Government has given up on providing an effective heath care.
