Clean-up operation begins in Leitrim Village



A major clean-up operation is getting underway in Leitrim village this morning after a tornado ripped through the popular tourist destination yesterday afternoon.

 

Serious damage was caused to properties, cars, trees and boats that were docked in the area.

 

Over 900 homes and premises remain without power.

 

Gardaí and Emergency Services attended the scene with some people being treated for minor injuries.

 

An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar is expected to visit the village later today.

 

Diversions remain in place o approach roads to the village at Drumgorman Lake (Drumshanbo-side), The Fingerboard (Carrick-on-Shannon-side) and Battlebridge (Keadue).

 

Sligo Leitrim TD Frank Feighan visited the village yesterday.

 

The Fine Gael Deputy contacted the Taoiseach about the incident last night.
