Sligo Councillor calls for local Armed Support Unit



The Garda Commissioner is facing repeated calls to establish an Armed Support Unit base in Sligo.

 

The nearest base to Sligo is Ballyshannon and there’s ongoing concern that that’s too far away with an increase in some types of crime in the town and surrounding area.

 

Its’ thought to have the base in Sligo instead of Ballyshannon would better serve the North West region.

 

Local Fine Gael Cllr Thomas Walsh claims there are a number of crime gangs operating out of the county and it would be in the interest of everyone to have a base:
