Sligo’s Laura McGuinn plays for Ireland at World Deaf Futsal Championships



Sligo’s Laura McGuinn is part o 13-strong Republic of Ireland squad competing at the World Deaf Futsal Championships in Brazil.

The Futsal or ‘indoor soccer’ World Championships take place in San Paulo from November 10th to 19th.

Laura, who’s 23 years of age, has  had hearing difficulties her entire life.

She is deaf in one ear and requires hearing aids in both ears.

She is a qualified soccer coach and works with the Strand Celtic girls under-13 team as well as the Sligo-Leitrim under-14 squad.

Ireland qualified for the Futsal World Cup after successfully competing at the European Championships in Italy last October.

Just six countries are competing in Brazil.

They are: Brazil, Czech Republic, Germany, Japan and Switzerland.

The Irish squad also includes Donegal’s Catherine Grier, who plays with Bonagee United.
