Lauren Cadden & Ireland seventh in World Relay final

Sligo Athletic Club’s Lauren Cadden and the Ireland women’s 4 x 400 metres relay team finshed seventh the World Relay Final in The Bahamas on Monday morning.

Cadden and Roisin Harrison were selected for the final as Rhasidat Adeleke and Sharlene Mawdsley were involved in the mixed relay final (where they won a superb team bronze medal).

Cadden, competing in her first major relay final, ran the third leg in a fine 53.09 seconds before passing the baton onto Sophie Becker for the final leg.

On the same night, the Ireland 4x400m mixed relay team of Rhasidat Adeleke, Sharlene Mawdsley, Tom Barr and Cillian Greene won an excellent bronze medal in their final.

North Sligo’s Chris O’Donnell was also part of the mixed relay squad but wasn’t selected to run in either the heat or final this weekend.

By winning their respective heats on Sunday morning, both Ireland relay squads had already secured qualification for this summer’s Paris Olympics.
