Sligo councillor claims the Government lifting eviction ban has led to fewer HAP properties

A Sligo Councillor says the low number of HAP properties available in Sligo and Leitrim should be treated as an ’emergency situation’.

Cllr. Arthur Gibbons made the comments after it emerged that the number of Housing Assistance Payment properties available to rent across the country is falling.

The Simon Communities’ latest Locked Out of the Market report found that there were no HAP properties to rent in Sligo Town and Leitrim County during the three day period when a recent survey was carried out.

The number of properties available for rent at any price within the areas surveyed has also fallen with just three homes for rent in Sligo during this time.

Speaking to Ocean FM news, Sinn Fein local elected representative, Arthur Gibbons says the decision to lift the eviction ban is a contributing factor to the crisis.
