Over 11,000 waiting on trolleys in the North West so far this year

Over 11,000 people have been on trolleys in the North West’s two main hospitals so far this year.

In 2023, 6,681 people have been left on trolleys in Sligo University Hospital, and 4,571 in Letterkenny University Hospital, according to the INMO.

Those numbers mean that Sligo University Hospital has been the fourth most overcrowded hospital in Ireland all year, with Letterkenny fifth.

The figures also show that over 100,000 people have been on trolleys in hospitals around the country so far this year, with today’s total coming in at 582.

Sligo University Hospital is also the second most overcrowded hospital in Ireland today, with 57 people waiting for a bed there this morning.
