Suspension of Sligo Cemetery gravediggers may see private contractors resume service

Concern has been expressed over the suspension of two long-serving gravediggers in Sligo Cemetery.

Both men have been suspended with full pay, and their suspensions came into effect in August.

Following their suspension, graves have become overgrown and untidy, as there is no longer anyone there to maintain them.

When contacted, Sligo County Council declined to comment on the matter.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, local representative Declan Bree is concerned about the possibility of offering private contracts to carry out the service, and how effective that may be.
