Sligo councillor says extra allocation from Department of Housing will be needed

Any increases that Local Authorities will receive  form the collection of property taxes will be needed to cover the mounting costs facing County Councils on an annual basis.

The the view of a Sligo Ballymote Tubbercurry Councillor.

There is speculation that the Local Authorities in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal are to get a budget boost of at least 1.5 million euro from the Department of Housing.

A memo going to Cabinet will confirm more than 75 million euro in additional funding for the day-to-day running of council areas.

It’s part of a revision of the distribution from local property tax collections.

Each of the 39 local authorities will get no less than 1.5 million euro with some getting more.

Ballymote Tubbercurry Councillor Paul Taylor says having the allocation of funding from the Department of Housing is often used as the Council’s stake of ‘matching funding’ for many projects.
