Leitrim Vice Principal warns that shortage of teachers could lead to less subject choice for students

A Leitrim based secondary school vice principal  is warning that the choice of subjects available to students in the new academic year could be impacted by the shortage of teachers.

The warning comes as calls are being made on the Department of Education to immediately announce it’ll give teachers full-time jobs before the October cut-off.

The Teachers’ Union of Ireland also wants to make sure teachers living in other countries who want to return home don’t face delays in registration for jobs.

Manorhamilton native Siobhan Evans is the Vice Principal of Drumshanbo Vocational School in Co Leitrim.

She says there are immediate measures that can be taken to attract more teachers back to the classrooms.
