Sligo councillor claims the government failed to plan for increased student numbers attending Sligo ATU

A Sligo councillor says calls by the Minister for Higher Education pleading with homeowners to rent a room to students in order to help ease the student accommodation crisis smells of desperation.

Minister Harris made the calls adding that families living in social housing and social welfare recipients can also benefit from the rent a room scheme.

It’s expected that many third level students will struggle to secure accommodation in Sligo this year and local Sligo Strandhill Councillor Gino O’ Boyle says proposing this solution in an area where social housing is already at a premium makes no sense.
