Drumkeerin native appointed ASTI President

A Drumkeerin native has been appointed as the new President of the Association of Secondary Teachers in Ireland.

Geraldine O’Brien teaches Home Economics, Computing, CSPE and SPHE in St Joseph’s Community College, Kilkee and previously served as ASTI Vice President.

Ms. O’Brien has also previously held the role of Vice Chairperson of the Clare branch of the ASTI.

The new ASTI president believes a shortage of teachers is undermining the education of our children and young people.

She says a number of actions could help teaching to become an attractive job once again.
