Introduction of early morning rail service to Sligo could help ‘ease student accommodation crisis’

This month’s meeting of Sligo County Council heard calls for Iarnród Éireann to provide additional services to Sligo in order to offset the impending accommodation that is expected to be in place for students attending the ATU.

Ballymote Tubbercurry Councillor, Dara Mulvey urged Iarnród Éireann to provide a morning train service from Connolly Station that would allow people to arrive in Sligo before 9.00 a.m.

He says with an accommodation crisis facing students planning to attend Sligo ATU the introduction of such a service would allow many students to live at home or rent rooms in towns that would be within traveling distance to Sligo.

The Fine Gael Councillor says such a service would also facilitate workers, second  level students and those with early morning appointments at Sligo University Hospital.
