Sligo University Hospital issue statement on overcrowding

Sligo University Hospital have issued a statement encouraging people to consider other options for non-emergency care.

It comes as the emergency department has been extremely overcrowded in the last couple of days. Sligo’s ED was the second most overcrowded in Ireland today for the third day running, with 42 people waiting on trolleys today alone.

143 people attended the emergency department yesterday, resulting in 32 patients admissions.

In the statement, the hospital acknowledged that these delays are very difficult for patients and their families and apologised for the inconvenience and distress these delays have caused.
