Operation Thor is driving down the number of residential burglaries in the North West



The North West saw a decrease in the number of residential burglaries during Operation Thor Winter Phase for 2022/2023.

 

According to figures released by An Garda Síochána, Operation Thor winter phase for 2022 and 2023 saw 18% decrease in figures in the number of residential burglaries.

 

Operation Thor involves actively targeted in organised crime gangs and repeat offenders through coordinated crime prevention and enforcement Activity based on intelligence and the latest burglary trends.

 

688 residential burglaries were reported in the northwest in 2021 and 2022 while in 2022 and 2023, 574 were reported.

 

Nationally, saw a 21.6% decrease in the number of residential burglaries during Operation Thor winter phase which included 2,988 years in winter of 2022 and 2023.

 

Other figures of note released by Gardaí during the winter phase of Operation Thor include 957 arrests, 1404 charges, 22,655 checkpoints while there were 133,531 patrols.
