Leitrim Councillor says HSE had no plan to deal with emergencies over the Bank Holiday Weekend

A local councillor and a member of the Regional Health Forum West has sharply criticised HSE chiefs for failing to adequately plan for the large influx of people into the north west over the Bank Holiday Weekend.

With major festivals in Ballyshannon, Sligo, Carrick-on-Shannon and Drumcora thousands descended on the local region.

Other popular tourist locations also reported large numbers of visitors over the course of the Bank Holiday weekend.

Leitrim Cllr Felim Gurn has accused the HSE of in adequate planning for dealing with an emergency at any of the local festivals

The Independent Councillor says a media message which advised those feeling unwell to consider other options other than present at the Sligo University Hospital A&E Department would have been of little use if an emergency response was required.
