McSharry improves Irish 200m breaststroke record

Sligo’s Mona McSharry improved her own Irish 200 metres breaststroke record at the Glasgow International Swim Meet on Sunday.

The 22-year-old posted an impressive time of 2:24.50 in winning the 200m on the final day of racing, going under 2:25 for the first time, to break her 2021 record of 2:25.08, set in the heats at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Earlier this weekend, McSharry won the 100m Breaststroke in 1:06.15, just one tenth of a second off her Irish record of 1:06.04 set at the Irish Open Championships in April.

The Grange woman is continuing her preparations for July’s World Aquatics Championships in Japan, which will be her first opportunity to qualify for next year’s Paris Olympic Games.
