Impressive Donegal regain Ulster LGFA title

Donegal regained the TG4 Ulster senior football title with a gutsy and deserved 1-10 to 0-9 win over three-in-a-row chasing Armagh at Owenbeg on Sunday.

Ciara McGarvey’s excellent goal in the closing stages sealed the win but Donegal were well tuned in to this contest all afternoon, coming from 0-4 to 0-1 down early on to lead by 0-8 to 0-5 at one stage.

The holders got back level in the second-half and actually moved a point clear at one stage.

But an injury to key player Aimee Mackin stalled their progress – and Donegal always looked capable of creating more chances, which they ultimately did with McGarvey’s late goal.

As well as the silverware, the win means Maxi Curran’s side will be top seeds in Group B of the All-Ireland series – a group which will include beaten Leinster finalists (and last year’s All-Ireland winners Meath) and Waterford.
