Rory Gallagher responds to domestic abuse allegations

The Derry senior gaelic football manager Rory Gallagher has addressed “very serious allegations” made against him by his ex-wife in a social media post.

In a statement issued through his solicitor on Thursday, Mr Gallagher said: “allegations against me have been investigated and dealt with by the relevant authorities”.

He was responding to a Facebook post by his former wife, Nicola Gallagher, about alleged domestic abuse over a 24-year period.

Reigning Ulster football champions Derry are due to play Armagh in Sunday’s provincial football final in Clones at 4pm.

In a statement, Derry GAA told the Impartial Reporter newspaper that it “condemns all forms of domestic violence”, and added: “We encourage anyone who has experienced domestic violence to report it to the relevant authorities immediately.”
