Sligo Rovers 1998 League Cup team return to the Showgrounds

Members of Sligo Rovers 1998 League Cup winning side will be the special guests of honour this Saturday night at Rovers home Premier Division game against Shelbourne at the Showgrounds.

Rovers sole victory in the League Cup competition came 25 years ago when midfielder Neil Ogden scored the only goal in a two-legged final win over Shels.

The team was managed that season by former Manchester City footballer Nicky Reid.

Odgen and his team-mates return to Sligo this weekend for a Civic Reception on Friday evening at the Sligo County Council offices (6pm) in Riverside to mark the 25th anniversary of their success.

The former Rovers midfielder has been speaking to Ocean FM Sport’s Dónal Ryan about that success a quarter of a century ago.

Another former Rovers player from that 1998 team, Marcus Hallows, will also be performing his Elvis Tribute Concert at Lola Montez on Friday evening from 7pm.
