Sligo Councillor calls for ban on super trawlers on Irish waters



A Sligo Councillor is calling super trawlers to be banned from fishing on Irish waters.

FV Margiris, which has been banned from Australian waters can land up to 250 tonnes of fish a day.

The trawler, which has been dubbed ‘Death Star of the Ocean’ is currently off the Cork coast.

Councillor Gino O’Boyle believes the trawler is having a detrimental impact on Irish waters and the Irish fishing industry:
