Earthquake felt in Donegal overnight

An area near Dunlewey in Donegal experienced a 2.5 magnitude earthquake in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The Irish National Seismic Network (INSN) has confirmed the 2.5 magnitude earthquake 5km near Glenveagh National Park.

The INSN says it has received reports that the event was felt throughout the Donegal area and was recorded by seismic stations across the country.

INSN detect and locate earthquakes in and near Ireland, but it also detects large earthquakes that happen anywhere around the world.

Measurements from Irish stations contribute to the global research into these earthquakes.

The INSN is asking people who felt this morning’s event to make a report on its website.
