Donegal Senator says more needs to be done to stop racism in Ireland

An Adara based Senator, who represents the Travelling community, has told the Seanad how a taxi refused to take her home to a halting site in Ballyfermot this week.

Senator Eileen Flynn, who is the first Traveller to serve in the Oireachtas, added that there is still a lot of work to do when it comes to tacking racism in Ireland.

It’s understood that she identified herself as a public representative to the taxi driver, however, they still refused to drive to the halting site.

Speaking to Ocean FM news Senator Flynn says Ireland as a country has a long way when it comes to tackling racism.

However she says that such incidents are more likely to take place in urban settings as opposed to rural areas.
