Local Green Party member challenges opposition TD’s to provide alternative solutions on the environment



A local Green party representative has strongly hit out at those calling for the Greens to be banished from office and the country.

 

The Rural Independents say some of the Green’s policies are based on hypocrisy and madness, and are ‘ripping the heart and soul out of rural Ireland’.

 

 

Ahead of a visit to Sligo by the Green party leader Eamon Ryan later this evening the north west chair of the Green party says that although there is the chance of some of the criticism may damage the party she’s challenged critics of the party to provide alternative solutions.

Meanwhile it’s emerged today that just three of 18 government departments completely met their Climate Action Plan targets in the first quarter of the year.

 

Across the six sectors deemed high impact, 75 per cent of the actions planned for the first three quarters of the year were completed.

 

The Department of the Environment hit 71 per cent of its targets, while the Department of Agriculture met 91 per cent of its goals.

 

This included seeing a third of all farms apply for funding to improve climate action and biodiversity under the ACRES scheme.

 

The first three months of the year saw a 31 per cent increase in sustainable travel rates, and electric vehicle car sales pass diesel for the first time.
