Liam Buckley appointed Sporting Director of Cork City

Former Sligo Rovers manager Liam Buckley has been appointed as the new Sporting Director of Cork City FC.

The Leeside club confirmed the news on Wednesday afternoon.

Buckley’s new role will see him focus primarily on player recruitment at Cork, along with supporting first-team manager Colin Healy on all football-related matters.

The Dubliner has had an extensive career in management, winning two League of Ireland Premier Division titles, along with numerous other  trophies.

His most recent job was, of course, with Sligo Rovers, where he guided the club to back-to-back European qualifications during his three-year term in charge from 2019 to 2022.

City are currently second from bottom in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division table.

As it happens, Sligo Rovers next away fixture will be against Cork City on Friday, May 19th – a match which will be broadcast live on Ocean FM.
