A Leitrim Councillor is looking to establish if member of the fire services have been adequately trained to deal with fires in electric cars.
Councillor Felim Gurn says if electric vehicles are in collisions with HGVs or other vehicles the events could be serious.
Councillor Gurn raised the issue at this weeks meeting of Leitrim County Council where he also looked to establish if the necessary equipment was available to fire personnel do deal with fires involving electric cars.
Speaking to Ocean FM News, the Independent Councillor says that technology may be on new fire engines to deal with such situations.
