Walker rescued from Slieve League cliffs

A multi-organisation operation saw a walker, who had become lost in the fog on the top of Slieve League cliffs rescued on Sunday.

Killybegs Coast Guard along with Donegal Mountain Rescue Team and Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue Team were tasked on Sunday morning by Malin Head Coast Guard to rescue the walker.

On arrival and after a briefing of all teams, the search commenced from the Bunglas carpark up towards the One Man’s Pass and an an ATV(All Terrain Vehicle) was deployed to the Pilgrims Path route.

Considering the heavy fog and for the safety of rescue team, they stayed on the path calling out for the casualty periodically.

Due to these conditions it was not possible to task the Rescue 118 helicopter at the initial time of the callout but was tasked after the visibility had improved.

After a 4 hour search at heights in excess of 500 metres, the casualty was located by the Killybegs Coast Guard Unit & Donegal MRT and was assessed for any injuries, but was not in need of medical assistance.

The casualty was walked of the mountain top back to the ATV which took them back to their vehicle.

The operation was stood down.
