Sligo Rovers lose 2-1 to Shels

Sligo Rovers Easter Monday trip to Dublin was a disappointing one as they lost 2-1 to Damien Duff’s Shelbourne at Tolka Park.

Daniel Lafferty gave Sligo Rovers a first-half lead but Shels drew level through a Matty Smith finish on 53 minutes.

Then, an attempted headed backpass by John Mahon to Luke McNicholas wrong-footed the Rovers keeper, resulting in a bizarre own goal.

That unfortunate moment would prove decisive as Shelbourne collected all three points.

The result sees Rovers drop three place in the LOI table to sixth.

Elsewhere on Monday, leaders Bohemians beat Derry City 1-0 at the Brandywell to move six points clear at the top of the table.

Monday night’s results
Shelbourne 2 Sligo Rovers 1
Derry City 0 Bohemians 1
Cork City 1 Dundalk 0
Shamrock Rovers 3 UCD 0
Drogheda Utd 1 St Patrick’s Athletic 3.
