A Sligo councillor is warning that local authorities in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal will be dealing with 169 families and individuals presenting as homeless in April as a result of the lifting of the ban on ‘no fault’ evictions.
Councillor Thomas Healy says figures from the Residential Tenancy Board are predicting that 54 families or individuals will be presenting homeless in Sligo, 27 in Leitrim while the figure in Donegal is 88.
The figures follow claims last week of limited emergency accommodation being available to local authorities throughout the country.
Speaking to Ocean FM news the Sligo Drumcliff Councillor says the impacts of becoming homeless will have a devastating impact on children in particular:
