Gardai out in force across the region for road safety day of action



A road safety ‘Day of Action’ is taking place in the North Western Region today,

 

Gardaí in the Sligo/ Leitrim Division and Donegal Division are urging all road users to slow down and stay safe this St. Patrick’s Weekend.

 

Today’s operation consists of high-visibility checkpoints and patrols along the main arterial routes through counties Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal, led by Roads Policing Units based at Carrick On Shannon, Sligo, Donegal Town, Letterkenny and Buncrana Garda Stations.

 

In the course of the operation strategically placed high-visibility checkpoints will also be conducted simultaneously on key arterial routes including the N4, N15, N16 and N13.

 

The operation will focus on:

Driving under the influence

Speed

Non wearing of Seat Belts

Mobile Phone use

 

Today’s ‘Day of Action’ is to remind drivers of the dangers of speeding, increase compliance with speed limits, and deter driving at excessive and inappropriate speed

 

The overall objective is to reduce the number of speed related collisions, reduce injuries on Irish roads, save lives and keep people safe this Bank Holiday weekend.
