Fight continues for retention of two fire stations in south Donegal



The fight is continuing to retain both Ballyshannon and Bundoran fire stations.

 

An online meeting was held this week with local Councillors and Oireachtas members and it’s understood that the feeling from the Department is that one station would be adequate in serving both communities going forward.

 

It could effectively mean the closure of Ballyshannon fire station.

 

The issue has been rumbling on for decades and on the ground its felt that the continuation of two fire stations in south Donegal is the only viable solution.

 

Local Cllr Barry Sweeney is warning that with the fire service generally experiencing an ongoing retention and recruitment crisis, a proposal to downgrade that service in the area would only make matters worse:
