Donegal TD labels government visits “nothing more than hollow PR stunts”

A Donegal TD has labelled the Taoiseach, Táinaiste and Minister Housing’s visits to Donegal as “nothing more than hollow PR stunts” while referring to the demolition of a family home in Donegal as part of the existing defective block scheme.

Speaking in the Dáil, Deputy Thomas Pringle said a Donegal family has seen less than 70 per cent cost recovery after their mica-affected home was demolished less than two weeks ago.

The family have been forced to move their children to a new school, due to the inability to source rental accommodation in their own community.

Independent TD Pringle believes the government has failed to listen which will see his Donegal constituents continue to suffer to effects of defective blocks.

In response, Taoiseach Leo Varadakar says he is aware of the issue around engineering costs and Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien will give consideration.
