Donegal Town native appointed Archdeacon of Armagh



Donegal Town native Reverend Canon Peter Thompson has been appointed Archdeacon of Armagh.

A son of Valerie and the late Alrick who owned the former Thompson’s drapery shop, Canon Thompson takes up the appointment with immediate effect.

Canon Thompson previously was Associate Professor of Theology in Applied Theology at Pestalozzi University in Miami.

Canon Thompson held the role of Rural Dean of Dungannon Rural Deanery in the Diocese of Armagh and a Canon in the Chapter of St Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh, serving as Prebendary of Mullabrack.

The Archbishop of Armagh, the Most Reverend John McDowell made the appointment following the retirement of the Venerable Terry Scott.
