Sligo Leitrim TD blames Health Minister for Sligo University Hospital crisis



A Sligo Leitrim TD has strongly criticised the Minister for Health for his failure to tackle the crisis in the emergency department at Sligo University Hospital.

Deputy Martin Kenny says the fact that there has been 105 per cent increase in waiting times at the emergency department between 2019 and 2022 is as a result of the failure of Minister Donnelly to increase capacity at the hospital.

Deputy Kenny says it’s not acceptable that those attending the emergency department can expect to wait over 16 hours for treatment while people aged over 75 are waiting more than 18 hours.

Deputy Kenny say the government must provide more beds and staff to Sligo University Hospital and step down facilities also need to be provided to allow a quicker discharge of patients:
