A Sligo Leitrim TD has claimed that the majority of Garda patrol cars are not equipped with a dash cam.
Sinn Fein’s Justice Spokesperson Martin Kenny was speaking as part of statements on the Garda Siochana Bill which is paving the way for the use of body cameras in the force.
Deputy Kenny says while the use of body cams by Gardai will provide members with added protection and will form a big part of the future of policing, what’s needed more is an increase of numbers in the force.
He also questioned the lengthy delay of the rollout of the technology when the need for it has been identified for many years:
