Family of Michael Leonard hold meetings with officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs



The family of Donegal man Michael Leonard has held a meeting with officials from the Irish Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs to ascertain what has been done in seeking answers from British authorities about his murder in 1973.

 

The 24 year old was killed 200 metres from the border after a car chase between Pettigo and Belleek on May 17th 1973.

 

In 2019, it was claimed that new evidence which the family presented proves that Michael was deliberately targeted and shot at multiple times by police before he could reach the border and his home.

 

The family have long been seeking a fresh inquest and this year will mark 50 years since his killing.

 

Speaking after the latest meeting, family friend and Donegal County Councillor Michael Naughton says the family are eager to get truth and justice once and for all:
